MARCHER SUR L’EAU (ABOVE WATER)

We take our access to clean drinking water for granted but one billion people around the globe cannot. Water scarcity determines their lives. „ABOVE WATER“ tells the story of a 12-year-old girl from the Niger region of Africa who walks miles in search of water every single day. She and her family have no idea that their village lies directly above a water source.

A documentary by Senegalese-French actress, screenwriter and director, Aïssa Maïga, about a well construction and the promise of a new life that comes with it.

Jury statement

Beautiful from a cinematic point of view. An intimate portrait of patience and waiting that magnifies climate change by showing what people are facing in the Global South as a consequence of the Global North practices.
