DER WILDE WALD (WILD HEART OF EUROPE)

It grows just the way it wants to, showing us what it can do. It’s coming back to life: The Bavarian Forest National Park. A primeval forest has been growing out of former commercial forest ground for half a century. Now a refuge for biodiversity, the things that develop here are without human interference.

An absolutely fascinating and revealing documentary on the 50th anniversary of the Bavarian Forest National Park, which together with the Sumava National Park in the Czech Republic, forms the largest contiguous forest reserve in Central Europe and follows the philosophy of letting nature be. A showcase project in terms of the self-healing process of a forest eco-system.

Jury statement

We want to celebrate the filmmaker’s longstanding ambitions to make nature documentaries. She has an excellent eye for details that shoes us the big picture and has captured the essence of the forest through stimulating images and a curious look at the territory. She also does an outstanding job of putting technology at the service of creativity.
